Salon des Femme 2004 Biz Lunch 2007
Two Sides - Art and Biz
The exhibition photo was taken at DiRosa's Off The Preserve Gallery in Napa where I was one of five women showing. The right pic is taken at Angele's in Napa during a Biz lunch.
I have been in business management for more than three decades, always within my own privately held corporations and partnerships, serving as a corporate financial officer. However, non-profits during the 80's and early 90's got a huge share of my time. In past years I've added Internet proficiencies with which my love of writing dovetails perfectly for Search Engine Copywriting, Site Map Design and now with building blogs and small websites.
While I attended UC Davis, I studied Website Design as it was relative to Art. From my study with Lynn Hershman Leeson, I gained an incredible perspective about Media & Ethics, which has added to my capabilities in managing
my advertising agency.
A techie chick from godaddy.com recently said in response to my telling her about a new domain name I acquired,
Artist Geek, and my intent to develop the site around Media & Ethics. She quipped, "Oh, Media & Ethics - that's an oxymoron, isn't it?"
Truth be told, women are known for their love of buying new shoes. I like to do that too, but I am afflicted with buying domain names. There's a creative aspect to finding a good domain name - it is similar to playing Scrabble - messing around with letters.
Philosophically and practically, I believe in giving back to the community. Concurrently while working full time, I volunteered for non-profits for more that two decades. I helped organize a non-profit educational association for fiber artists, contributed articles to newsletters, lectured on a circuit, and also represented artists in many public and private conferences in California, Kentucky, Texas and as well, in South Africa. When I went back to school for my degree, I had to shift those volunteer hours to my studies.
I feel like one of those luckiest women as I believe Oprah named us - Women who live in America are the luckiest women in the world. I've lived the American dream - I was able to buy my first home when I was 21, have and continue to own my own businesses, have benefited from the gift of a good education, and most important of all - provided well for my family."
